A decentralized way for physically active teenagers
We designed the "Stockholm in motion" to bring sports closer to where people live.

As part of a course (Openlab design thinking course) we were given a challenge by Idrottsförvaltningen (Stockholm Athletic Council) and we were asked to find new innovative ways of getting Stockholmers in general and four target groups in particular to be more physically active by providing some ideas and answers about how future sports arenas could be.
After some months of research we have come up with our final concept "The Stockholm in Motion/Stockholm i rörelse". It is a contribution towards a healthier, happier and friendlier Stockholm. Parts of the concept are the SportsTruck and CoachNet services as well as a Stockholm in Motion App to be used as a networking tool for bringing together the concept and the users.

To work with this challenge, we use the Design Thinking Methodology, and its accompanying tools to lead us through the problem solving process. This methodology helps teams with different talents, expertise and knowledge to come up with solutions that are both radical and innovative. It also offers also a way to understand and get insights of the actual problem, and not get stuck in a solution-mindset.
It is important to constantly ask questions in order to understand which needs have to be fulfilled and create an optimal solution for the users. We started our journey by understanding the main problems and reasons why teenagers stop being active. We had an extensive empathy phase aiming to learn more about needs of our target groups (in terms of being physically active) and gain insights into how we could help them fit physical activity into their daily lives.
The SportsTruck is a movable "sports arena" driving around Stockholm.
This concept consists of two main parts, the
SportsTruck and the CoachNet. Together, they offer more opportunities to the users by meeting all of their needs. Additionally, the creation of the Stockholm in motion App can bring the combination of these concepts to the potential users by providing useful information about the time and the place of each activity. The SportsTruck is a movable sports arena driving around Stockholm.
It is a truck filled with different sort of equipment and tools for different types of sports and activities. When the truck parks the space around will be transformed to an open arena where youths is invited to test and get active. The youths get inspired by not only being able to be spontaneously active, without being pressured by their performance, but also from the fact that they will be provided with equipment needed for each sport or activity.
